Streater Spencer

Streater Odom Spencer graduated from Ole Miss in 1980 with a degree in Marketing. Although essentially self-taught, she studied for six months under Ben Shute, cofounder of the Atlanta College of Art. When her first paintings from that class sold quickly in Atlanta galleries, her career took off on its own.

Streater’s popularity has grown tremendously in Nashville where she has been Featured Artist in the Harding Festival, The Brentwood Fine Arts Show and The Art Event at Lipscomb. She had that same honor at Webb Fest in Knoxville and Art in Bloom in Gallatin, TN. After a working trip to Tuscany in 2005, her more relaxed style has been received with great enthusiasm. These new works were featured in a one woman show at Cottonlandia Museum in Greenwood, MS which set all time sales records for that show. Streater is currently showing in galleries throughout the southeast.

“I hope to invite the viewer into the painting through the use of warm color, atmosphere and texture. I’ve found that my most admired paintings are created when I simply paint what’s comforting to me. It seems there’s a common attraction to peaceful beauty.”
