Creason Clayton

Born in Mayfield, Kentucky, Creason Clayton showed a precocious interest in artwork at a young age. He received his formal training at the following Institutions: University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, and American Academy of Art, Chicago, Illinois.

The Mediterranean inspires artist Creason Clayton, who strives for “snob appeal” in his work. As haughty as that sounds, what he wants to do is take the viewer to a romantic place they’ve never been before. Clayton is known the world over for his paintings because of his attention to detail, such as shadows in the street or flowers in the window.

A touch of eccentricity in Clayton’s personality adds to the authenticity of his work. His love of art fuels his love of travel. He believes traveling to be essential and values the chance to paint a few watercolors while he is away. Clayton notes that he wants to be remembered as a serious oil painter. He’s done that, so what’s next for this skilled artist?

Voted Best Visual Artist by Nashville Life Magazine in 1997 Creason was also named among the top 100 Contemporary American artists by Art & Antiques Magazine. His work resides in many private collections, galleries, and businesses nationwide.

Creason passed away in August 2006 and is dearly missed.
